Charlie is a Glasgow native who studied Theatre Studies at the University of Strathclyde. By 2004, he had written and performed two well-received Edinburgh Fringe shows and was working extensively on the UK comedy circuit, appearing at The Comedy Store in London, across the Jongleurs network and with Avalon. He also worked regularly for BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Five Live.
He has appeared in several short film projects and on stage. He has a notable radio and audio career including roles in several Doctor Who projects for Big Finish productions..
Since his return to the stage in 2023 , he has appeared in two stage productions, including one of his own writings which received an Off West End Award. He has resumed performing on the comedy circuit, with bookings steadily increasing, and his next play has already had a professional reading, with plans to stage it later this year.
