Matthew Coulton
Hailing from Yorkshire, Matthew graduated from Central’s Complicité-associated BA (Hons) Acting: Collaborative & Devised Theatre course in 2014.
His work as an actor includes credits with Theatre By The Lake, Chester Storyhouse, a No. 1 tour with Leicester Curve and Rose Theatre Kingston, and BBC TV / Radio. As a physical theatre specialist, Matthew has performed in The Magic Flute (Simon McBurney, Complicité), The Winter’s Tale (Rory Kinnear, ENO), and as choreographer/movement-double for Timothy Spall in Stanley, A Man Of Variety (Stephen Cookson). As a puppeteer, his work includes Lyric Hammersmith/Pins & Needles, several tours with Slot Machine Theatre, and R&D with Blind Summit.
Matthew has also worked as Movement Director on numerous shows, including three Off-West-End 2020 Award Nominated productions. He is Associate Artist for So It Goes Theatre (a New Diorama Emerging Company 2020), Movement Director for Pendley Shakespeare Festival and regularly teaches Lecoq technique at the Actors’ Centre. Alongside Linn Johansson, he is co-founder of Artistic Rebellion, an interdisciplinary UK/Swedish devised theatre company. Their work has featured at Fertility Fest 2019 (The Barbican), and Varberg Festival, Sweden.
